Legacy House is a unique and forward-thinking project that blends modern living with timeless values. Situated on a site with an ideal northerly aspect, the design maximises natural light and harnesses solar gain to maintain a comfortable indoor climate year-round. Passive design principles are central to the approach, with careful attention to ventilation, shading, and cross-breezes - all tailored to the subtropical Sunshine Coast climate. At its core, Legacy House is built with sustainability in mind. The home is entirely off-grid, incorporating solar power with battery storage, as well as rainwater harvesting and on-site wastewater treatment systems. Polished concrete floors provide thermal mass to regulate temperatures naturally, reducing the need for mechanical heating and cooling. These features are integrated seamlessly into a home that is both practical and aspirational - built with durable, low-maintenance materials chosen for long-term performance. But while the home performs quietly and efficiently behind the scenes, it’s also rich in warmth and detail. Spotted gum ply linings, locally sourced materials, and custom joinery - crafted by Mooloo Timber from trees felled on-site - speak to the project’s deep connection to place. Even the furnishings tell a story, with many handcrafted by local makers or sourced from Australian small businesses, adding layers of texture, history, and care. Designed to foster connection, the home features generous open-plan living spaces that comfortably accommodate large family gatherings and seamlessly blur the boundaries between inside and out. From the shared kitchen, dining, and living areas to expansive outdoor zones, every element is designed to support togetherness, flexibility, and ease. Landscape design by Fig Landscapes furthers the home’s ethos of sustainability and stewardship, transforming the once-cleared paddock into a thriving native garden that encourages biodiversity, supports bushfire resilience, and requires minimal upkeep. With Legacy House, Jess hasn’t just designed a home - she’s created a lasting retreat for her family. One that puts sustainability, well-being, and connection at the heart of daily life, now and for generations to come.
