I’ve been fortunate in being able to assemble a team of truly remarkable professionals, whose personal commitment to our clients & collaborative, sensitive approach to design are a genuine match for my vision for the practice. Being deliberately small (but mighty!) we work in a heavily collaborative manner, with the full team contributing to most projects. This enables us to be nimble and to adapt our resourcing to suit the ever-changing needs of our projects. To say I’m proud of this team is the understatement of the century - they have my back and yours, and I can’t wait for you to meet them!

our values.

We’re here to make beautiful, livable buildings that are sustainable, attainable and fun - to make and to occupy.

Our values underpin our process and facilitate the creation of a clear vision for every project with an execution that is cohesive and enjoyable for all involved - from concept to completion.

We’re lit up by the capacity for good architecture to enrich the human experience & driven to deliver results that exceed expectations, not budgets.

In creating Jessica Hardwick Architecture, my vision has been to provide a relationship-focussed approach to design that is founded on listening to understand who our clients are, what their objectives & aspirations are. We collaborate with our clients to develop exciting project briefs that are enriched by thoughtful insights on the special qualities of each site we respond to.

We are passionate about producing work that engages strongly with its context, is healthy for people and the planet, and nourishing to experience.

Through her experience at some of Brisbane’s leading practices, including leadership roles at Happy Haus and Shane Thompson Architects, Jess gained valuable experience on award-winning residential & commercial projects of up to $20 million in construction value.

In her near 20 years of practice, Jess has honed her expertise in sustainable subtropical design, interior design, construction detailing & value management. Career highlights to date include completion of her Masters thesis on contemporary vernacular architecture in Timor Leste, being awarded a scholarship for the Glenn Murcutt International Masterclass and acting as Project Architect on a number of award-winning projects including Elements of Byron Resort Central Facilities, Archerfield Airport Interior Refurbishment, as well as several residential projects recognised by the Institute of Architects awards programme.

In starting the practice, Jess created an offering that takes a principled and accessible approach to architecture. Being able to build the business around family life leaves space for Jess to work in with her two beautiful kids and the busy and vibrant life she’s built with her husband Chris. When she’s not in the studio, Jess loves gardening, sneaking off to live performances and travel.

Steph is as warm as she is comprehensive in her approach to both design and documentation. With a passion for sustainability, design and strong client engagement skills, she is a true asset to the JHA team and always delivers on our commitment to client-focussed services.

Steph’s solid experience in the design and delivery of high end residential architecture and her approachable and collaborative way of operating ensure that her clients feel supported and are consistently delighted with their results.

Having joined JHA in 2020, Steph has stepped into the leadership role of Senior Associate with enthusiasm and provides a critical bolstering of Jess’ capacity by supporting in the business development and practice management aspects of the company. When she’s not in the studio, Steph can often be found pursuing travel and outdoor adventures with her husband Sean and pup Reggie, working on their cottage or sewing up a storm - she’s a truly multi-talented woman and an absolute gem of a human.

Eliza enjoys blending her passion for beautiful and functional architecture with a strong commitment to forming strong client relationships in her work. Obtaining a gratifying solution for clients as well as ensuring the job is carefully and efficiently documented, is common practice in her day to day.

Joining the studio in 2021, Eliza worked with us while concluding her Masters of Architecture at QUT. Having recently graduated, Eliza is eager to learn and immerse herself in new opportunities. Having now joined the team in a full-time capacity, we are enjoying creating opportunities for Eliza to extend her skills and experience. We can always count on Eliza to be organised and thoughtful in the completion of her work and are constantly delighted by her diligence and initiative.

As a country girl, Eliza is inspired to create architecture that responds strongly to the Australian landscape and was recently selected to complete the Architecture Foundation Australia Summer School with living legends Richard Leplastrier and Peter Stutchbury. In her spare time, Eliza enjoys cooking, Parkrun and escaping to her home town in Western QLD with her family and friends
